Virtual reality [VR] has made massive headlines in the tech world over the years with its capability of engrossing its users in a virtual and safe world. This has caused an increase in the number of VR Production Companies across the world. Many people are familiar with the term “virtual reality”, but very few of them are sure about its uses. One of the most obvious virtual reality applications is gaming. But its uses don’t stop there. The following are some of the ways that virtual reality can be applied in various fields.

  1. Virtual Reality application in military

The military has adopted virtual reality in both the U.S and U.K. where it is used for training purposes in all three services [army, air force, and navy]. It is used to train soldiers for combat situations and other dangerous settings where they have to learn to react properly.

A virtual reality simulation enables the soldiers to do so without the risk of severe injury or death. They can understand, for instance, an engagement with an enemy in an environment in which they experience these but with no real-world risks. This has been proved to be safer and cost-effective than traditional methods.

  1. Virtual reality application in education

Education is also another field that has adopted virtual reality for teaching and learning situations. It enables a large group of students to interact with each other. Virtual reality is also able to present complex data in a way which the students can understand easily. For instance, astronomy students can learn more about the solar system and how it works by engaging with the objects within physically. The students can move planets and see around the stars.

Again, students with special needs like autism can also benefit from virtual reality. Research has proved that virtual reality can offer an inspiring platform for students to practice social skills safely.

  1. Virtual reality in sports

Virtual reality is changing the sports industry for both viewers and players. VR is used as a training tool in many sports such as athletics, golf, cycling, skiing etc.  It helps in measuring athletic performance and analyze technique. It is also used in clothing and equipment. A golfer who wants to improve his swing or a track cyclist who wants to go faster in his personal pursuit can use virtual reality to sharpen these aspects of their performance.

Virtual reality can also be used to improve the audience’s experience of any sporting event. A system can allow the audience to walk through a stadium or any sporting location; this can be very helpful, especially when purchasing a ticket for an event.

  1. Virtual reality in healthcare

Virtual reality has also been adopted in the healthcare industry. It covers phobia treatment, robotic surgery, skills training, and surgery simulation. VR allows healthcare practitioners to discover new skills and refresh the existing one in a safe surrounding. Moreover, it allows for this without causing harm to the patients. Virtual reality can also be used to diagnose conditions, so it enables health practitioners to arrive at a diagnosis in combination with other methods like MRI scans.
