With toilet paper still hard to find, some of us have had to search for alternatives. But did you know that using anything other than toilet paper could severely damage your toilet and plumbing system?
All plumbers recommend to ONLY use toilet paper, unfortunately, there are times when we don’t have a choice, especially during a pandemic when toilet paper is hard to get your hands on. Definitely stay away from thicker paper options such as napkins and paper towels. They could end up causing a major backup, leading you to call a Chandler, Arizona plumber.
Toilet Seat Covers
When all else fails, the next best thing next to toilet paper would be toilet seat covers. Why? Because they are so thin and can be flushed. However, using toilet seat covers in the placement of toilet paper may not be that pleasant of an experience, but at least they will be gentle on your toilet and plumbing and system!
Oh, flushable wipes! They say they are flushable, but they turn out to be a plumber’s nightmare. These so-called flushable wipes actually wreak havoc on your toilet and plumbing. But, if that is all you have compared to paper towels and napkins, they are a much safer option. Even though these wipes eventually break down, they do so at a much slower pace and will oftentimes cause devastating clogs.
You might think that tissues are safe to flush. Even though they aren’t the safest option, they are still better than resorting to paper towels, napkins, or even clothing. (Yes, some plumbers have said they have had customers use socks or even towels instead of toilet paper, so don’t do that.)
When using tissues, make sure to only use small amounts and sparingly. And if you can, just avoid flushing them and throw them away in the trash.
