A new lightweight electric car has earned the title of “fastest car” in its class. Electric Blue, the name of the EV, is the work of more than 130 students over a period of 7 years. The group of Brigham Young University engineering students have built an electric car to set the world record for land speed, an average of 155.8 mph in the two required qualifying runs, one of which even reached 175 mph .

The students have been part of this project over the past seven years under the hand of the supervision of Professor Perry Carter. “This is like Christmas morning,” said a former student captain in the project was to record the races.

The car, a spoiler (long thin shape), was custom-built by students. The body is made of lightweight carbon fiber, while lithium iron phosphate batteries power the car and helps you achieve high speeds. Electric Blue compete in the E1 class, which includes vehicles of less than 1,100 pounds.

Professor Carter Brigham Young University has only retired, declaring that the world record for his latest project is “a wonderful end to 31 years of teaching.”
